How Often Should I Get a Contact Lens Exam & Fitting?

During a contact lens exam, we’ll complete tests and decide if contacts are an option for you. We’ll determine your prescription, which will differ from your glasses prescription.

If you wear contacts, we recommend an annual exam. A contact lens exam and fitting don’t replace a comprehensive eye exam. We recommend both so that we can monitor your eye health and check if your contacts fit properly.

What’s the Difference Between Hard Contacts & Soft Contacts?

While soft contact lenses are more common than hard contact lenses, we offer both to our patients. In fact, we’re one of the few local offices that provide hard contact lenses.

Hard contact lenses and soft contact lenses both have their own advantages. We can help you decide which ones will be a suitable fit for you based on your unique needs.

Whichever ones you choose, please don’t sleep in your contacts! It could increase your risk of an eye infection.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) or Hard Contact Lenses

Hard contact lenses may offer patients clearer vision and are less likely to tear. However, they also can take some time to get used to and could be more complicated to care for than soft contact lenses.

Patients may find soft contact lenses more comfortable because of their flexibility. They may also be easier to get used to than hard contact lenses.

We offer toric, multifocal, and daily lenses:

  • Toric lenses can help correct astigmatism, which can blur and distort vision.
  • Multifocal lenses can help to correct both near and farsightedness.
  • Daily lenses are worn during the day and stored at night.
